Sanibel Sunglass Company was started on Sanibel Island where we tend to Live Outside.
Sanibel Sunglass Company is based on Sanibel Island, Florida, capturing the feeling and atmosphere of “Old Florida”. Our concept is authentic and true! We will bring a fresh, tropical experience to our customers and will radiate the culture of the island through the best shopping mall environments in the country.
We want to be the destination for those consumers interested in Sunglass Excellence; which involves style, fit, and function relating to the needs and wants of living outside. We are equally committed to the needs of our customers with respect to all aspects of sun protection, including hats clothing and lotions.
Founders Neil & Birgit Peck
“We’ve always loved Sunglasses and the Outdoors, and wanted to create a company based on the island lifestyle of ‘Living Life’ Outside, hence our tagline ‘Live Outside…’” Birgit Peck.
The Pecks started Sanibel Sunglass Company in November, 2008, with their flagship store on Sanibel Island in Florida and now operate nearly ten stores in the southeastern United States. They plan to continue opening a new store every two months. Neil began his career by owning and operating surf shops on Martha’s Vineyard, called Pecks Bad Boy. From there Peck’s trajectory follows the classic American storyline. He began his first sunglass chain, called Sunglass Outlet in San Marcos, Texas and was the only employee, paying himself $8 an hour. In only nine years Peck grew the company to 40 stores operating in 22 U.S. states, then sold to a major competitor in 2002. The rising entrepreneur met his wife, Birgit, in 1996. Her corporate expertise from 12 years at fashion giant Hugo Boss as vice president of U.S. sales brought an extensive amount of retail knowledge to team Peck. Her understanding from corporate operations to retail sales put the finishing touches on his sunglass enterprise. Birgit gave the brand a polish and helped Neil bring the sunglass company to the next level. The Pecks love the Sanibel lifestyle, especially fishing and tennis with their son and daughter.
